Create plan for business case process

Creating a business case may take time and as with other types of planning processes, several iterations are often required before the right approach and the best scenarios are identified.

The task of creating a business case is special in the sense that it is taking place before the project. Looking at the importance and the time it may take to establish a solid business case and the value a good business case can offer, it is often a good idea to treat the business case as a project in itself. This means having a process for the definition of deliverables, success criteria, activity plan and well-defined responsibilities.

Key activities:

  • Define who is responsible for business case creation
  • Define deliverables and plan
  • Plan data collection
  • Plan business case writing and review rounds with key stakeholders
  • Communicate the plan
